The last year has been tough for many and unexpected events may have slowed us down or hindered us from achieving the goals we had set. Hopeful that there is still a brighter future ahead, we still have an opportunity to get back up and start again or continue from where we left off. Here are a few tips to help you set goals and achieve them
Decide on the goal
What goals would you like to set and why? Be honest with yourself when answering these questions. Having a clear reason will motivate you to work towards the goal even when challenges arise
Write down your goals
Writing down your goals makes them real and you have no excuse of forgetting. Read them every day to remind yourself of what you are working towards
Break them down
Break down your goals to smaller ones. This makes them attainable and reachable. For example, if your goal is to eat healthier, you can break it down this way:
- Cut out fast foods
- Include vegetables on all meals of the day
- Eat a fruit as a morning snack and afternoon snack
- Make a meal plan for each week
- Have one cheat day a month to eat any food of my choice
You will face a few challenges along the road. Think ahead and determine what challenges you are most likely to face and plan on how to overcome them. When you are prepared, you are less likely to give up.
You are more likely to reach your goal if you reward yourself. Write down what you would like to reward yourself with after every milestone achieved. Whether it’s a day at the spa, a vacation or new shoes, go get it. Have something to show for all your hard work.
Set aside time to review your progress. You can do either a weekly review or monthly review but the more frequently you do it the better. If you have not achieved what you would like within the time that has passed, make swift adjustments and get back on track
What’s on your list this year? Stop waiting for the perfect time to start and get started right now!
